Grand opening for new T Pots Pottery location
Posted by sierraweb on December 12, 2007
T Pots Pottery is moving to 11084 West River Street, Truckee, CA. The premier Open Studio, showcasing work by Owner Teresa Wik, will be the weekend of December 15th and 16th from 10:00am to 5:00pm. This event will be the public’s first chance to see Teresa’s new studio, which is located in the Old Henrikson Mill Building. Teresa is thrilled that her studio is nearly twice the size of the old T Pots Pottery location; “I am so excited to have more space. Not only do I have a display area for finished pottery, but the studio can also be set up with workstations for class instruction.”
Teresa is planning classes in wheel throwing, hand building and slab work. Studio and kiln rental will also be available at T Pots Pottery. As Teresa says, “Over the past few years, I have had many people ask about classes, as well as renting studio time and equipment. I could not accommodate them until now.” Classes will begin in January and will be for all levels.
Contact Teresa Wik at (530) 559-9773 or info@tpotspottery.com for more information.

“Deuce” benefit concert for Mineral County Council on the Arts
Posted by sierraweb on December 12, 2007
Popular local music duo, “Deuce” will play a benefit concert for the Mineral County Council on the Arts at the High Desert Arts and Culture Center , 360 6th St. in Hawthorne, NV on Sat., Dec. 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $5.
Non-alcoholic beverages will be available at the concert and all proceeds benefit the Mineral County Council on the Arts, which runs the High Desert Arts and Culture Center in the historic 6th Street Primary School building.
Cory Rivero and Shane Young, favorite Hawthorne musicians, will perform a family entertainment mixture of rock and roll during the concert.
“We’ll play some traditional music, some covers and some originals, along with everyone’s Christmas favorites,” says Young.
Bea Whitney, whose art studio is across the hall from Rivero and Young’s musicians in residence studio at the Arts and Culture center, says, “It’s a real pleasure to hear them practice.”
Organizers say those who dress in fun, holiday attire could not only make it on the “nice” list, their efforts could be rewarded with a prize.
Both Rivero and Young began playing music in their youth. A fortuitous meeting in 1997 allowed the two to jam together the next year. The duo found they share the same “warped” sense of humor and an interest in heavy metal bands.
That match made in Hawthorne was a good one and the two have been making music together ever since. They’re popular favorites at several area taverns.
Rivero and Young will be joined in the benefit concert by vocalist Silvia Torres a McQueeen High School student who has been performing since the age of 7. The teen has an amazing voice.
